The Kavial OU flag reaches the peak of Elbrus

On the 22nd of July 2015 at 14:20 the Kavial flag was unfurled on the east peak of Elbrus which is a huge 5642 metres high.

Aleksandr Govrin, an employee of Kavial’s daughter company and keen mountaineer took to the foot of Mount Elbrus to prove his strength and place the Kavial flag at the ‘peak of all peaks.’

Mount Elbrus is a dormant volcano located in the western Caucasus Mountains of Russia, near the border with Georgia. Mount Elbrus’ peak is the highest in the Caucasus Mountains in Russia and Europe as well as the tenth most prominent in the world.

In July and August the climate of the mountain is most stable, with a nighttime average of around -8°C (18F) but can fall to -30°C (-22F) in the day throughout the winter months.

Aleksandr Govorin’s Story

“It took us a total of one week to climb Elbrus. I wanted to prove my strength of mind and willpower to myself by reaching the top. In general, everything went well. On our last night, we had reached 4,800 meters and there was a harsh wind and frost of -20°C which is a lot colder than the average – this meant that when we reached the East peak of Elbrus the following day the view was not as nice as we would have liked. We unfurled the flag just after 2pm and nearly got blown away with it! Still, we managed it and like to think this shows Kavial as a great partner company who has the strength and dedication to supply bearings worldwide!

The following day, on our descent, the weather was a lot better. We managed to get great pictures from the Pastukhov Rocks (4800 metres) of the entire North Caucasus and Bezengi Wall. I’m looking forward to climbing a different mountain next year!”
