The local branch of Motion Industries relocated on March 23 to a newly constructed 6,000 square-foot facility at 2120 Charleston Ave.
Motion Industries moved out of its previous facility at 2011 Charleston Ave. to help make way for the planned expansion of the adjacent K.C. Summers automotive dealership, 117 S. 19th St.
A press release from Branch Manager Jon Croft reported that the history of the Motion Industries Mattoon branch goes back four decades.
“The facility was originally part of Illinois Bearing Co. (Berry Bearing Co.) and has operated in Mattoon since the mid to late 1970s. Berry Bearing was purchased by Motion Industries back in 1997-1998. We then became a full Motion Industries branch sometime in 2000-2001.”
Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., Motion Industries is a full-line distributor of brand-name industrial parts. These parts include SKF bearings, Baldor electric motors, Dodge mounted bearings and gearboxes, Timken tapered roller bearings, SMC pneumatics, Rexroth hydraulics and pneumatics, and Emerson power transmission.
“Industrial and safety supplies are relatively new and fast-growing categories for the company,” the press release reported.
The Mattoon location serves an area that includes Effingham, Paris, Robinson, Shelbyville, and Tuscola. This location services customers in industries ranging from printing and paper to food processing and petroleum.
“Eight Mattoon branch employees in customer service, outside sales, delivery and warehouse, clerical, and management keep these customers’ facilities ‘in motion,'” the press release reported.
Other nearby Motion Industries locations include Champaign, Decatur, and Mount Vernon. They are part of a network of more than 550 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company also has several regional distribution centers, including one in Chicago.
Motion Industries also provides fabrication and repair services to its customers coast to coast through repair, rebuild, machine, belt, industrial pump, fluid power and industrial hose, and electrical panel fabrication/repair shops.
The regional specialists provide technical solutions for applications in electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics, linear motion, industrial/safety supplies, belting and industrial pumps.
Each branch covers distribution in its own territory. They take orders by phone, email, fax, and electronic data interchange. Customers have the option to order via www.motionindustries.com.
“The Mattoon branch receives a truck nightly for all items we have ordered that day from our local Chicago distribution center. We then make daily deliveries to selected routes in our territory,” the press release reported.
Motion Industries is a sister company to NAPA Auto Parts. Both are owned by Genuine Parts Co., which is a Fortune 500 company based in Atlanta.
