Acorn Industrial Services and their employees have had a very fun-filled weekend in aid of raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. On Friday Acorn joined in in the world’s biggest coffee morning, and to add a little excitement into the mixing bowl, hosted their first ever ‘Great Acorn Bake Off’ competition.
The employees really rose to the challenge and took the competition to a whole new tier, employees from around the Acorn branches took part and brought in a selection of buns, cakes and pastries to enjoy with their morning coffee’s.
Here’s a selection of what was brought in and sold to Acorn employee’s and local businesses:
Every employee that took part received 10/10 for effort, although the voting count revealed there was one clear winner who went above and beyond what was expected for the amateur bake off competition. Jonathan Green’s ‘Joyous explosion’ cake had a rainbow sponge, coated in 6 different sections of chocolate goodies, and if that wasn’t enough, the main spectacular was a waterfall of m&m’s falling out of an m&m bag. Jonathan Green was awarded Acorn’s ‘Star Baker 2015.’
On Saturday, Acorn Industrial Services HQ in Rotherham, hosted another first; an Acorn Family Fun Day which brought together employees from all over the country along with their families to enjoy a range of activities including a bouncy castle, hook-a-duck, tin can alley, and a fun sports day challenge.
Throughout the day guests also enjoyed a Hog Roast provided by A Party Hire Company, refreshments from Yorkshire Terrier Bar, a DJ all day, and an ice cream van from Gratino’s Ices.
Acorn Industrial Services has been an ‘Investor in People for 14 years, and events like these help employees to feel rewarded for their hard work and Acorn believes bringing employees together helps maintain a feel good working environment throughout the branches.
Prizes were generously donated from a range of manufacturers, including SKF, NSK, Renold, KTR, Contitech & Megadyne, so that Acorn could run a raffle. From both events Acorn have so far managed to raise £276.09 and counting, where all proceeds are going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
