Thermo-12 Gold to be Replaced by Water-Resistant Thermo-1200

Thermo-1200 from Johns Manville Industrial Insulation GroupThermo-1200 from Johns Manville Industrial Insulation GroupA new water-resistant calcium silicate, Thermo-1200, is slated for an August 2017 release by Johns Manville Industrial Insulation Group, a global building products manufacturer and Berkshire Hathaway company.

This product will replace the company’s Thermo-12 Gold, offering the same thermal performance and corrosion-inhibiting properties along with the new water-resistant capability. As noted by senior product manager Jack Bittner, untreated calcium silicate can absorb water, which puts pressure on contractors to cover the insulation immediately after installation. Thermo-1200, he said, “is engineered to give contractors a little more breathing room during the installation because water will bead on the insulation’s surface, rather than soak into the insulation.”

Another major concern in the insulation industry, corrosion, is addressed by the product’s XOX Corrosion Inhibitor – which will protect the surface even if a small amount of water does penetrate the insulation.

Thermo-1200 is inorganic, non-combustible, asbestos-free, and meets or exceeds the physical and thermal property requirements of ASTM C533, Type 1. It can be used in systems with operating temperatures that range from ambient up to 1200°F (650°C).

A data sheet is available with more information.
