Scientists at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence (CompMechLab®) collaborated with LLC ‘Special and Medical Equipment’ to create the protective container that has energy absorption characteristics.

The new technology was developed to ensure the safety and efficiency of easily breakable equipment when dropped from heights up to 125 meters onto a hard surface like concrete. One of the initial tests was dropping this container from a helicopter onto a concrete surface. The container passed this high-altitude test.

This container was developed quickly. The team went from the basic design stages to prototype production to full-scale testing within 38 days. "Full-scale tests confirmed the complete safety and efficiency of the protected equipment," says Prof., Dr. Alexey Borovkov, Vice-Rector for Advanced Projects of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU).

The project is being used within the Digital Factory (TechNet, National Technology Initiative) on the basis of Institue of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies SPbPU. The container demonstrates results of the simulation and optimization-driven design and manufacturing paradigm. This allows the team to create globally competitive customized products of a new generation.
