Morris Lubricants achieve energy management standard by reducing carbon footprint

Two sister businesses based in Shropshire have demonstrated their commitment to reduce their carbon footprint by achieving the ISO 50001 international standard for energy management.

Morris Leisure owns six caravan parks in Shropshire and North Wales while Morris Lubricants is Britain’s leading family-owned lubricants manufacturer. Both companies are based in Shrewsbury and are part of Paterson Enterprises.

The companies have installed solar panels to generate renewable energy to reduce their costs, replaced traditional lighting with LED lights and installed light sensors and more energy efficient heating boilers.

Caroline Walton, regulatory affairs manager, said both companies had committed to reducing their carbon footprint by cutting energy consumption and continually identifying ways in which they could improve efficiency.

Companies are audited every year to ensure that they are complying with the terms of ISO 50001 by constantly improving energy management. ISO 50001 certification contributes to the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, which is mandatory for large enterprises, such as Paterson Enterprises.

Last year, Morris Lubricants became the first lubricants blender in the UK to achieve a globally recognised accreditation for its laboratory. ISO 17025 is the single most important international standard for calibration and testing laboratories.
