Meter Bearing invests $4.5 million in the US

Meter Bearing Group is establishing its first US manufacturing plant in Colleton County, South Carolina. Meter will be investing $4.5 million in to the state and creating many new jobs.

Vittorio Musso, president and CEO of Meter S.p.A. said: “Part of our growth strategy is to establish a manufacturing operation in the United States to reach our customers that already exist there. We chose Colleton County thanks to the great and professional support of the South Carolina Department of Commerce staff and local officials.”

Meter Bearings, a family-owned company that has been manufacturing bearings since 1981 specialises in the design and production of ball and cylindrical roller bearings. Meter has two production centres in Italy and China and two development and technical assistant offices in Germany and USA.

The investment in Colleton County could not have come at a better time. Many county’s in South Carolina suffered from the last recession and saw many job losses. It is investments such as these that are helping the state get back on track. In April, Colleton’s unemployment rate had fallen to 6 percent, down from 9.4 percent in the same month a year ago.
