Bearing Cage Materials

Cage Type0820.png

Bearing Cage Materials:

  1.  1.Nylon/Polyamide/PA66Machined or moulded, low cost, light weight, application below 100 ℃, not a good choice in a vacuum application environment

  2.  2.PEEK/PolyetherUsed in clean and ultra-high vacuum environment, temperature 150℃, incompatible with acids and corrosive solutions

  3.  3.PTFEChemically resistant, insulating and non-magnetic, no high load capacity, not suitable for high temperature applications

  4.  4.Metal(Ribbon)A standard choice for many applications with high temperature, vacuum or clean environments

  5.  5.Full Compliment(No Cage)

  6.  6.BrassCan be both crown ball pocket and riveted type, not suitable for high speed use, more often found in larger bearing assemblies

  7.  7.Phenolic resinLight weight and strong, ideal for high speed applications, operating temperature up to 120℃, the material tends to absorb oil, assisting the lubrication of the cage

Cage Damage 0820_1.png

Cage Damage

Damage Conditions:

  1. 1. Cage deformation

  2. 2. Fracture and wear

  3. 3. Fracture of cage pillars

  4. 4. Deformation of side face

  5. 5. Wear of pocket surface6. Wear of guide surface

Possible Causes:

  1. 1. Poor mounting or misalignment

  2. 2. Poor handling

  3. 3. Large moment load

  4. 4. Shock and large vibration

  5. 5. Excessive rotation speed, sudden acceleration and deceleration

  6. 6. Poor lubrication

  7. 7. Temperature rise

Countermeasures:

  1. 1. Check the mounting method

  2. 2. Check the temperature, rotation and load conditions

  3. 3. Reduce the vibration

  4. 4. Select a different cage type

  5. 5. Select a different lubrication method or lubricant
